Send Large Files Free, Without Uploading
Last updated:
Most file-sharing services make you upload a file first, wait, and hope it fits under a size limit. Wire2.me skips the upload: the file streams directly to the other person while you are both online.
No file size limit
Wire2.me does not set a file size limit. Because files are streamed instead of stored, you can send anything from a PDF to a multi-gigabyte video archive. The practical limits are your own connection and the free disk space on the receiving device.
How to send a large file
- Open Wire2.me and create a wire.
- Send the code, link or QR code to the recipient.
- Wait until they join, then drag and drop your file or folder.
- Keep both tabs open until the transfer completes.
Tips for big transfers
- Keep both devices awake and the Wire2.me tab open. Phones can pause background tabs.
- Use a wired or strong Wi-Fi connection. The slower side sets the speed.
- If the connection drops briefly, the transfer can pick up where it left off.
- Sending many files or a folder works too. Received files can be downloaded together as a ZIP.
When another tool is a better fit
Both people have to be online at the same time. If the recipient cannot be online with you, or you want a link that stays valid for days, a cloud transfer service is the better choice.
